Taxis from Schiphol

The registered taxi companies at Schiphol will be happy to take you to any destination in the Netherlands. Visa

Delegates planning to visit the Netherlands on business should check with the Netherlands Consulate about their visa requirements. Follow this link for a list of countries whose citizens require a visa to visit the Netherlands.

Note that this list is for guidance only. We strongly advise you to seek the advice of your preferred travel booking office or the nearest Consulate if you are uncertain about whether you need a visa.

Staying safe in The Netherlands

A Message from KPMG Global Security

Opportunistic street crime is the principal risk for business travelers to Amsterdam.  It is particularly important to exercise caution during hours of darkness as this is when more incidences of street crime are reported.  We recommend that attendees use pre-arranged transportation for all movements to activities outside the hotel.  App-based ride share companies like Uber and Bolt are widely available in Amsterdam and provide a safe and reliable service.

Please take the following personal precautions:

  • Upon arrival to your room, familiarize yourself with the hotel’s emergency exit locations and evacuation routes.
  • Always carry a copy of your ID and passport/visa with you.
  • Ensure your mobile device is sufficiently charged before leaving the hotel.
  • Travel in pairs or groups rather than alone when exploring outside the hotel.
  • Use ATM machines at the hotel or a bank and avoid any street-facing terminals.
  • Maintain a low profile outside the hotel and do not carry anything in plain view that might be considered of exceptional value.
  • Exercise vigilance if visiting popular entertainment areas/red light districts as they are locations with higher crime rates.

Information Security Measures

  • Avoid connecting to public wi-fi connections. If you must do so, use your VPN and select the “Always-Tunnel” option from the Group dropdown.
  • Ensure all software, including anti-virus protection and any security patches, are up to date prior to travel.
  • Turn off Wi-fi and Bluetooth when not in use.
  • When you return home, consider changing passwords on accounts that you’ve accessed if you suspect any issues.  Also monitor your financial statements for fraudulent charges.

Seeking Help and Reporting Incidents

  • Immediately contact the police or the fire/ambulance service (dial 112) in the event of a security or medical emergency.
  • Any issues in the hotel should reported to the hotel staff and/or the event support team. The hotel staff can also assist you with contacting emergency services if needed.
