Travel

São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) serves São Paulo which is approximately 32 kilometers (21 miles) away from the Renaissance São Paulo Hotel.   Travel time is approximately 45 minutes, and a taxi should cost approximately USD 35.00.

Local Taxi Company

We recommend you to arrange your transfer to and from the airport with Guarucoop Taxi Company. They work 24 hours and every terminal has a Guarucoop stand.

https://guarucoop.com.br/en

You can also arrange the taxi by phone: +55 (11) 2440 7070

You will need to make your own arrangements for travel to and from the airport and around São Paulo.

Visa

Delegates planning to visit Brazil on business should check with the Brazilian Consulate about their visa requirements. Follow this link for a list of countries whose citizens require a visa to visit Brazil. Note that this list is for guidance only. We strongly advise you to seek the advice of your preferred travel booking office or the nearest Consulate if you are uncertain about whether you need a visa.

A visa letter can be requested through your registration.

Staying safe in São Paulo

A Message from KPMG Global Security

Street crime is the principal risk for business travelers to São Paulo.  All visitors should take personal measures to avoid being victimized.  It is particularly important to exercise caution during hours of darkness as this is when muggings and robberies escalate.  We recommend that everyone use pre-arranged ground transportation for any movements to activities outside the hotel.

Please take the following personal precautions:

  • Maintain a low profile outside the hotel and do not carry anything in plain view that might be considered of value to a criminal (mobile devices, expensive jewelry, etc.).
  • Upon arrival to your room, familiarize yourself with the hotel’s emergency exit locations and evacuation routes.
  • Use prearranged ground transportation through the hotel or event support team.
  • Always carry a copy of your ID and passport/visa with you.
  • Ensure your mobile device is sufficiently charged before leaving the hotel.
  • Travel in pairs or groups rather than alone when exploring outside the hotel.
  • Use ATM machines inside the hotel or a bank and avoid any street-facing terminals.
  • Chip-based debit/credit cards are recommended for electronic transactions, as card theft as well as skimming is a concern. Criminals have been reported to use magnetic strip readers. Bringing some cash is ideal, since not all credit cards may be accepted.
  • Exercise vigilance if visiting popular night clubs and entertainment areas as they are locations with higher crime rates.
  • Immediately contact first responders (Ambulance – 192, Police - 190) in the event of a security or medical emergency.  Please note that not all police and emergency responders speak English and there could be a language barrier, therefore if your situation allows it is beneficial to work with someone fluent in Portuguese when contacting authorities.
  • Area Note: The majority of violent crimes in Sao Paulo are committed in peripheral neighborhoods and favelas on the outskirts of the city and are linked to gang conflicts over drug trade or conflicts between local residents. The eastern neighborhoods and the far south of the city are considered high-risk areas and should be avoided. Nonetheless, no area of the city should be considered immune to crime.

Information Security Measures

  • Avoid connecting to public wi-fi connections. If you must do so, use your VPN and select the “Always-Tunnel” option from the Group dropdown.
  • Ensure all software, including anti-virus protection and any security patches, are up to date prior to travel.  Do not update software while away.
  • Turn off Wi-fi and Bluetooth when not in use.
  • When you return home, consider changing passwords on accounts that you’ve accessed if you suspect any issues.  Also monitor your financial statements for fraudulent charges.

Reporting Incidents

  • KPMG partners and employees should contact International SOS 24/7 at +1-215-942-8226 in the event of an urgent medical or security situation requiring support.
  • KPMG partners and employees should download the IntlSOS Assistance app onto your smart phone prior to travel. Visit app.internationalsos.com from your smartphone’s browser or go to your phone’s app store and search for “International SOS”. When you first start the app, use your KPMG email address to register.  You may be asked to enter KPMG’s membership number, which is 1CPA1111.
